The loan is to support project readiness financing for expanding horticulture production and farm household income in Himachal Pradesh, including piloting activities, design, and capacity building.
Dr. C. S. Mohapatra, Additional Secretary for India's Department of Economic Affairs, and Mr. Hoe Yun Jeong, Officer-in-Charge of ADB's India Resident Mission, signed the agreement.
The loan will fund the establishment or rehabilitation of 16 irrigation schemes, development of 17 subtropical horticulture plots, fencing for crop protection, and the formation of community production and marketing associations.
The pilot activities will be scaled up in 7 districts of Himachal Pradesh, focusing on the southern region which currently faces challenges with water access, crop losses, and market access.
The ensuing project aims to ensure implementation readiness with prior testing of new production technologies and marketing systems to make the project cost-effective, timely, and enhance farm profitability.
