The key benefits from ES are expected to be:
- Lower cost of delivery through standardisation, simplification, process harmonisation & scale leverage.

- It is currently undertaking the Effective Financial Control and Reporting (EFCR) project with an agenda to reduce the cost of control by € 50 mln (50% reduction). The agenda in controls is called Zero Based Controls (ZBC). As part of the ZBC project, a global governance model supporting the Unilever standards for access and financial process controls is being designed and having a common approach for managing user access to financial systems.
- The agenda on controls will involve creation of a new service line under Enterprise Services called the Controls Service Centre (CSC), located in Bangalore.
The new service line will have 3 key services
1) Access Control
2) Monitoring & Reporting
3) Expert & Insight services.
- This role is part of Expert & Insight services. This role will cover all aspects of controls that impact country operations - process control review, Sarbanes Oxley (SOX), controls self assessment and financial audits. In summary, all country related control activities will happen ex CSC and this position will be the lead. Some of the key aspects of the role are:
- Understanding of key financial processes and exposure to SOX/financial audits
- Requires strong knowledge in SOX compliance. This person will be in charge of managing the SOX process for approx 70 entities
- Unilever will be initiating a self assessment based Assurance process starting 1 Oct ’12. This will involve getting self assessments on controls from across +100 entities in Unilever
- Going forward, all financial audits (approx 50) will happen at CSC and this position will be leading the process.
- Be the lead for relationship management with the auditors an service providers for the approximately 15 validation audits in a year
Main Accountabilities
- Be the single point of contact for countries on all their control related matters – process controls in the area of R2R/P2P/O2C and M2D and also SOX, self assessments, audits etc
- Define the governance mechanism with all stakeholders - business units, country co-ordinators and process owners on various control matters – SOX, audit, CSC assessments
- Manage the deficiency reporting and tracking process; and verification of the corresponding remediation procedures
- Co-ordinating with country and with various audit firms to ensure execution of plans
- Drive relationship with 3P and identify continuous improvement opportunities

Key Skills
Relevant Experience
- SOX - Detailed understanding of and experience in Sarbanes-Oxley compliance, including internal control scoping, risk assessment, documentation, testing, summarisation of results, evaluation of effectiveness of internal controls and remediating control deficiencies.
- Organisation Effectiveness - Inter personal skills to engage and effectively work with a wide variety of stakeholders from diverse backgrounds
- Project Management – planning and coordination abilities
- Leadership – Lead immediate and extended teams (3P service provider) and capable of setting and executing agenda independently
- Communication skills – Fluent in written and spoken English
- Masters degree in Accounting or Finance preferred – CA – we are looking only at CA’s and not MBA’s
- Strong SOX compliance experience - Experience in designing and monitoring SOX compliance programs
- Prior work experience in either a Big 4 accounting firm or in an assurance department of a large multinational organisation
- 6+ years working experience
