Wrong return filed 2009-10

I have received an email from cpc.gov.in about Non-receipt of ITR V for AY-2009-10 - "The above said e-return has not been processed at CPC, Bengaluru on account of non-submission of ITR-V or lack of verification through EVC." The email says 31 Aug 2016 is the date for verifying the return.

When I retreived my returns from IT website, it shows return filed on my pan number by someone else declaration. Is it possible that someone else can file incorrect return on my pan number? There is no income tax due as tds has alraedy been done. But there is no way for me to revise my income as it is way past the due date. What should I do? Can someone please guide me. Thank you.

It might be your CA or tax cunsultant, who would have filled ITR on your behalf.

Now the situation is, if the details provided in the ITR are as per your provision, its better that you e-verify, the same online.

But when you are not agreeable to the ITR, better approach your jurisdictional AO, with written application.

Thanks for your feedback sir. What would the further steps be? Would it be possible to revise the return? The income shown is wrong, tax paid not shown. There is no tax due only wrong filing.

Actually, the return cannot be revised. As you have already received communication from CPC, it has to be replied in suitable manner to minimize any future obligations. So, I repeat again that if the data as per return are not harmful to you, better try to subside by just e-verification now.

BUT without actually analyzing the data unavailable here, I would suggest to take help of any local CA, or your earlier CA/TPR/consultant for any further action.
