Wrong efiling of return

Hi all,

I have aproblem. Hope you will guide me. I have filed the e-return for AY 2009-10, based on the form 16 given by my employer. However by mistake, i have entered wrong figures for the salary. I have send the printout and received the ITR-5 from IT dept acknoledging the recipt of my e-return in the month of august 2009.

Now yesterday, I have received demand letter from IT department, for paying the additional tax. The additional tax amount calculated is based on the amount which I have shown as salary income. I have to pay the additional amount within 1 month. In the letter, it is mentioned that, i can ask for the rectification as per section 154 or appeal under section 246A of the IT act 1961 . Request you to please guide me what will be the forward path and how to rectify the mistake committed by me.
