Orkut started back in Januarry 22, 2004. As of April 2010, 48.0% of Orkut's users are from Brazil, followed by India with 39.2% and United States with 2.2%. One might think that having such a huge following and membership base, how come facebook still rules the social networking scene.

Facebook started back in February 2004. a month after the launch of it's competitor, orkut.

Both sites promised it's members complete and easy profile functionality and user friendly access. Though we see that facebook is leagues  away from it's rival orkut.

You may remember the crazy habits of scraps and friend requests. Well, as of now if you visit facebook, it feels dead as if no one visits their profile anymore. Maybe because orkut failed to keep up with the competition.

As you may observe facebook keeps on updating and always comes up with something intuitive that clicks with the peeps. The user friendliness, the fast updation and public wall-to-wall messaging that you can use to piss off others.

Maybe the flaashy-ness of orkut didn't flaash enough for people to keep on visiting their profile and thats what makes it boring and monotonous. The same old scraping and scraping and super laggy interface. Accounts being hacked and deleted and stuff.

I believe that the days of scraps and testimonials are gone now and the days of walls and pokes are here to stay for a while.
