WHY COMPUTERS ARE SO POPULAR
A computer can add, subtract, and compare two letters to determine their alphabetic sequence, as well as copy them. There is nothing profound in these operations; but what is significant is its Speed, Storage capacity, Accuracy and Capability of Automatic operation.
SPEED:
Talking of speed, how much time would you take to add two 20-digit numbers? 30 seconds? But in this time, a computer could have done billions of operation!
One second is a long time for a computer. It works in fractions of a second. How much?.in terms NANO seconds[nano =1/1,000,000,000=one billion].It takes 350 to 400 nano seconds to add two numbers ,and this means that in one second, It can perform such an addition 3,000,000 times(and you take 30 seconds to do one such addition !).
STORAGE CAPACITY
Besides high speed, another advantage of the computer is its enormous storage capacity. It can store large volumes of data for quick retrieval.
Our brain to, has an ultra –high storage capacity. For instance, it can store store details of numerous VISUAL AND LINGUAL FORMS (- VISUAL REFERING TO SIGHT, AND LINGUAL REFERING TO SPEECH). WE HAVE AN EXTRAORDINARY ABILITY TO LEARN AND RETAIN ENDLESS AMOUNTS OF SUCH DETAILS.
MEMEMORY
HOWEVER, WITH THE HUMAN BRAIN, A PROBLEM IS CREATED WHEN SOME THING IMPORTANT IS FORGOTTEN. THE REASON FOR THIS IS THAT WE CAN REMEMBER ONLY THAT WHAT THE BRAIN CONSIDERS BEING IMPORTANT.
THE RETREIVAL OF INFORTION FROM THE BRAIN IS AFFECTED BY EMOTIONS, AND IS THEREFORE NOT CONSISTANT. ON THE OTHER HAND THE RETREIVAL CARRIED OUT BY COMPUTERS, IS NOT INFLUENCE IN ANY SUCH WAY.
