whats the use of "know your PAN" in IT site??

to know the PAN number, if you forget it. tou have to fill your name and date of birth. then your PAN number will be displayed.
hey bt its not working...it shows " no matching records found"!!
may be name or date of birth are not matching wid details in form 49A submitted by u......
