Kill the confusion, the simple rule: the on-going assessment year for any term.
For Nov 11, AY 11-12 (PY/FY 10-11);
May-Nov 12, AY 12-13 (PY/FY 11-12), so on..

Finance Act 2010 is applicable for financial year 2010-11
and Finance Act 2011 is applicable for financial year 2011-12
and for fy 2010-11 , assessment year is 2011-12
and for fy 2011-12 , assessment year is 2012-13.
IN simple words , for may and nov, 2011 exams = Finance Act 2010 is applicable , hence py 2010-11 and Ay 2011-12.
For may and nov,2012 exams = Finance Act 2011 is applicable, hence Py 2011-12 and Ay 2012-13.
