What to Learn from Big Failure of Baba Ramdev in anti-corruption Movement

Most famous Yoga guru of India Baba Ramdev is a shining example of rags to riches story. Within ten years he built a business empire of more than 1000 crore rupees. In Yoga he has become an icon who is followed by million in different countries. In India most of people know him as his Yoga programs are broadcasted on more than three dozen TV channels.

His rising power and popularity lured him to become messiah of anti-corruption movement in India. He firmly believed he would succeed by using his immense support network. But he could not stand the tough and wily politicians and his widely supported protest fizzled out within ten days.

Even many think-tanks in India were puzzzled at the speed Baba’s movement faded. Powerful Baba Ramdev suddenly found himself alone pushed into a corner.

What happened? Where did Baba commit mistakes? What lessons can be learnt from his big failure? He was having determination, money, resources and a massive support of people. Nobody could even dream that he would face such a miserable defeat in his anti-corruption movement.

Many people in life make similar mistakes and fail to rise in career or business according to their expectations. Much can be learnt from the recent misadventure of Baba Ramadev.

1.

Baba Ramdev rushed to break his established image

Baba has worked for years to get an image of highly learned Yoga guru. He is a peaceful and non-violent teacher. People were unable to accept him as a new warrior against corruption who was ready to make politicians his enemies. New image was forced on people in a hurry which the people could not digest. Even his image of a Yoga guru got a dent.

2.

His New Venture lacked Planning

He was not experienced enough to combat with the people who were masters of politics. He did not even recruit people who could fight with the champion political soldiers. He rushed into the warzone without any planning. There was not even plan A there, forget about back plan B or C. And his opponents new it, consequently they pushed Baba aside mercilessly.

3.

Excess Confidence blurred his Vision

While his strong confidence in his abilities made him highly successful in his Yoga and Ayurvedic medicines ventures, his excess confidence in new venture crushed him. His vision was not clear. He left the practical ground and flew high on the base of sheer over-confidence. As a result he fell down and the bruises he got may take years to heal.

4.

He did not form a master group

In case our venture is not based on our core strength we need a group of capable people who know how to manage our venture and lead it to success. Such a group becomes a necessity. Baba did not even think about it. Result was a total crash.

5.

He showed poor leadership quality

A leader is bold and teaches his followers by setting an example. When faced by a stiff police action on Ramlila grounds Baba Ramdev tried to run away in the dress of a woman. He failed in his attempt as police caught him. Instead of getting panicked he should have kept leading his followers with courage. Leaving his followers on the mercy of police Babe tried to escape. It damaged his impression as he gave an example of a weak and fearful leader. His followers got in confusion and their will to protest against the government relented. If a captain gets scared and leaves the ground the match is lost.
