In nutshell .....
Receiving an excess amount of money where a financial instrument is sold for more than its purchase price. This is referred to as a GAINS. (Capital earnings)
Whereas profit is the total REVENUE earnings for a period i.e. summarized as the summation of total income less total expenses.
