Are there any web based multi-depot excise invoicing softwares? We are not sure how many depots we would eventually need and we don't want to pay extra licenses if we add depots.

excise registrations are location wise, and every such place should be registered and maintained individually.

I agree that physical locations are needed to be registered and maintained individually and that's what we are doing. But I should be able to generate invoices and manage stock for any of the registered depots from a single piece of software like SAP does with their central hosting model. Am I missing something here?

Head office can maintain inventories for commercial purpose, but stock register RG23D, dealer's invoice under excise and returns should be maintained location wise.
Even in tally we can Create any number of "Godowns" and maintain stock there, and issue "commercial invoices consolidated way for all godowns.

I agree. But even stock register RG23D, dealer's invoice under excise and returns could be centrally managed if the software has logical segregation of depots in the database built-in and the software is accessible from outside of the company's computer network. Then it wouldn't matter if the physical location of the actual computer is at the depot or at the head-office or at some cyber cafe. Right?

dealers invoice, RG23D and dealers return, its must be present at the dealer's registered premises, and RG23D must be in order to match with the physical stock present in the registered premises,
in absence of these regulations maintained, department may go against the dealer and conficsate the goods and book case of evasion.
it does not not matter that your records are made public and accessible from cyber cafe, but the registered premises must present the respective documents which are in relation to the registered premises.

Ok. So, the solution seems to be that print dealers invoice, RG23D and dealers return documents and maintain their current physical copies at the respective depots. So we can still use web based solution and be in compliance.
