Urgent: Custom Duty on a Laptop?

Dear forum members,

I need urgent help regarding the Custom duty. I am thinking of buying (importing from USA via courier) a laptop from Ebay. The seller is from America and the price of this laptop is near 850 dollar inclusive of 100 dollar shipping charge. In India the price of this laptop is 60,000 rupees. That is 1333 dollar.

What Custom duty and other charges will be levied on this item if I buy it? Can you tell me the exact amount of Custom duty plus other charges by calculating it? I will be oblige if you do so for me. I don't actually understand this CIF value thing. Whether the duty will be levied only on the laptop price OR also on its shipping price etc.

**The seller has mentioned in the listing that it will NOT ship this item as gift and will declare it value on the package!

According to the new rules, a person of 18 years of age and has stayed more then 3 days overseas can get a laptop to India duty free as a part of baggage. However, it should also be noted that an individual can only .

Export Certificate
Laptops or any other goods of high value taken out from India by a passenger while going abroad can be imported again into India free of duty provided the passenger had received an export certificate from the Customs in respect of that particular item while going abroad.

The goods over and above the free allowances shall be chargeable to customs duty @ 35% + an education cess of 3% i.e. to say the effective rate is 36.05%.

I have already gone through the link, sir. But I don't understand whether the duty will be levied only on the price of the laptop or on the inclusive price which includes shipping charge etc. also? One more thing would like to know that I have calculated possible Customs duty on my 850 dollar laptop at 36.05% rate. It came at 2328.76 rupees for me. Can you cross check whether I have done the calculation right or not?
