Which year of articleship are you in?
If 1st year, as per new annoucement, you can take transfer/ termination freely..
For 12 months you can go for secondment/ industrial training, save paper-work and time. I suggest go for that in last 12 months of your articleship, if your CA is co-operative.. Else, lure him/ her saying I'll learn at some XX firm and come back for rest period, which will be beneficial for your present firm.
So, you gotta somehow manage a year, learn to be flexible and adjustable.. Will take you long way in life. Write a letter to ICAI in the meantime, if you get approved have fun (you might not be actually having fun in next firm unless it's dummy, so beware and think twice).
Regarding response time, they responded in around 3 months to a person I used to know. It can be quicker, it can be slower.
BTW, if your parents aren't willing to move.. why don't YOU marry and move out?? When you get transfer, take divorce.. :p Just kidding.. eh..

@ Mayank kharbanda:
Big fours prefer students with full articleship period, at max. transfers with most possible time left. There are numerous firms who do consider secondment cases, so go for it now itself or, during the last 12 months..
If your CA is nice, then why leave him buddy? There are worser and of course better firms/ CAs.. but, what if you get into worser ones? I say don't take chances. If you are not getting adequate exposure, you can always get that after articleship/ after becoming a CA, while getting paid better.. prioritise on becoming a CA first. Anyhow, it is least likely anyone will give much responsibilities at trainee level.
@ jose.p:
C'mon dude, how many couples stay at the husband's parent's place after marriage? A lot move out. Earlier this rule, as far as I remember, was for ladies only, now you too have the chance!
@ sachin sharma:
Principal ki agreement to chahiye hi chahiye in any case, whether transfer is allowed or not.
Please read here -
https://icai.org/resource_file/19592announ10698.pdf
It says -
I. Transfer /termination of articles is permitted without any restriction during the first
year of articles.
Take revenge from your Boss, lure new kids to take transfer during first year.. :P
Also, others please read point 4 (iii), which states -
Marriage basis (only if there is relocation to another city involving distance of 50 kms).
No mention of gender..

IPCC/PE2 results are not as good as PCC until last term, unless until that trend changes, or the monthly/ quarterly CPTs with re-introduction of articleship after CPT news is actually implemented, there will be scarcity of articles.
You can convert to IPCC if you have not cleared group 1 of PCC, then rejoin for articleship after passing IPCC-group 1.
Better than these hassles, do one simple thing - marry and invite me at the reception.. ;)

At present due to shortage of articles, the tone of Principals has changed drammatically. I know some CAs paying stipend irregularly, harrassing trainees, excessive work hours, they've now changed.
We'll be in charge for more upcoming months.. Things might depend on the volume of pass-outs in IPCC/ PE2. If it is less the, YAY! for us.. If more, we can still have fun for 3-4 months, till they learn something.. :)
So, I'm expecting atleast 6 more months of monopoly!
I've read somewhere that ICAI is going to bring a monthly exam scheme of CPT, then articleship immediately after that.
If the volume is more, I'll try my best to not let anyone join my firm, even if they do, I'll try to lure them to take transfer.. Yeah.. I'm bad!
It's sad that I lost another free food opportunity.. :(
