We were not taxpayers under VAT , Service Tax and Central Excise etc earlier but are now required to register under GST.

No you are not required to cease you activity and you can aapply for gst registration till 30 september but it is advisible you register your self as soon as possible and get your provisional id in gst.your provisional id shall be your final id in GST.
