What are the fundamental causes you will find behind virtually every home based business leader, entrepreneur, network marketer, corporate executive or athlete? These seven causes are common knowledge - at least with the successful!  With all of the business and internet marketing gurus churning out new books monthly on how to make money and attain success and happiness, you'd think we would have these fundamentals burned into our memories. Yet we forget. How quickly we forget!

This wisdom is nothing new. They have been recycled in various forms for hundreds of years. So, as you read through these seven fundamental difference makers, take out a pen and paper and rate yourself on a scale of 1-5 on each one. Your final score will help you to focus your efforts on those areas that, if strengthened, will help you get to the next level.

Score yourself as follows: 1 - Very Weak
2 - Weak
3 - Neutral
4 - Strong
5 - Very Strong

The Seven Fundamental Reasons People Succeed:

1. They have a successful mindset.

People who fail often do not believe in themselves or their opportunity enough. This is the single most important reason people succeed or fail. Successful leaders have made a habit out of daily "mental work" - making time each morning and evening to visualize, feel and believe their success.   Score:____

2. They Are Passionate and Show Enthusiasm.

Emerson once said that nothing great had ever been accomplished without enthusiasm. A key element here (and this is where you can be honest with yourself while scoring!) this enthusiasm cannot be feigned! It must be sincere. You are more likely to be successful with your endeavor if it is something that you really believe in and can get excited about. Again, your success begins and ends with your state of mind!  Score:____

3. They Allow Themselves Time to Succeed.

It takes 10 years to become a doctor, 5 years to become a lawyer and 1,000 hours of apprenticeship to become a barber. But how often have you seen people give up in their home based business or network marketing company after just a few months or weeks? Attrition is a huge problem in network marketing as there will ALWAYS be the next big launch. Stick with one thing for a while and you will be successful.  Score:____

4. They Have the Desire.

Too many people wish they were successful, but don't really want success enough to put in the work and sacrifice required to attain their goals. For example, if you want to lose weight and get in shape, you may want to give up refined sugars. By the same token, if you want to grow personally and accomplish something great, you may want to give up television! How bad do you want it? What are you willing to give up to get there?  Score:____

5. They Have a Plan.

They don't let each day take care of itself and just drift with the wind, hoping that one day they'll be successful by simply thinking positively. Successful people plan and outline what to do every hour of every day. If you are just starting a business, I recommend putting together a 30-60-90 day plan outlining your strategy and tactics you will take to reach your incremental goals. If you are starting a home based -business, this is even more crucial, as you will need the self-discipline and structure to help you stay on track.  Score:____

6. They Are Willing to Continually Learn.

It was Herbert Hoover who said, "The wise man learns from experience. The super wise man learns from the experience of others." Successful leaders attend meetings and training calls, read books, listen to books on CD or MP3 while in the car or exercising (an old Zig Zigglar practice!) and mastermind with those whose success they would like to attain.  Score:____

7. They Work Hard and Smart Taking Daily Action.

Hard work is pointless if it isn't strategic and consistent. Working smart ensures your hard work make a difference. Understanding leverage is a key principle in working smart and the subject of a separate article. Make sure that 70% of your time is spent on actions that get you results, 30% on self-development and personal growth and only 10% (or lower if possible) on administrative "busy work". When you are successful, you can hire an assistant!  Score:____

Okay, time to add up your score. Now rate yourself!

28-35 - You are a Rock Star! Please get in touch with me so I can follow you.

21-27 - You are successful and, with a bit of focus, will be highly successful.

14-26 - You've attained moderate or sporadic success, but are often frustrated. With renewed commitment and focus you'll be fine on your weak areas you will be fine.

1-13 - Time to make a commitment to yourself. Start with number 1 and work your way down. Don't give up, in time you will make it!

One very important item to note. None of the above seven fundamental reasons people succeed have anything to do with age, education, marital status, background or gender.
