20 July 2010I have an EPF amount lying with my previous account with one of the employers and have yet not transferred same to my existing account with present employer. Recently I have observed that 10% TDS has been deducted on the interest amount on my EPF account. Pls let me know whether the interest amount on such account will be treated as my income and hence the amount is chargeable to normal tax rate under the head "income from other sources".

how do you know that epf department deduct tds @ 10%. They will only deduct the amount if u not continue this account more then 5 yrs (might be 5 yrs).

What kind of PF account it is???is it RPF or UPF??

Dear,
It is a employee provident fund trust and hence RPF. A form 16 is also issued by them.
