simple way to deal with this kind of problem is to place a "purchase order" and book them as "purchases". Here you will be buying the goods from the tailor, hence not covered under WORK CONTRACT and will TDS will not be applicable.
To be on the safer side you can also deduct TDS on contract which is 1% or 2% as the case may be.

Ask tailor to submit bill for complete unit (pairs of uniform) as per you raise PO on him (if he raises bill as material + labour then it is required to charge TDS on labour portion otherwise it is not required) or ask him to raise bill separately. (service tax on labour or other

Hi,
Can someone on this forum kindly explain, or provide a Whitepaper depicting the whole concept of 'Witholding Tax' or TDS as is more commonly known, together with the practical points to be observed, including Registration, Collection and due dates of Payment/remittance of TDS, the rates pplicable, when and how to go about filing of TDS Returns, Interest, Penaties/Defaults etc? I think if we have such a process/document in place, it would help us all in discharging our responsibilities towards TDS. Thanks Gladwyn
