Tax treatment for long term capital gain on sale of shares

I have purchased shares of listed company 15-20 years back I don't know the purchase cost and date of purchase. I have sold the part shares in July,2016. Pl. help me to calculate Capital gain for filing return with example.

if Securities Transaction Tax was duly paid, Long Term capital gain on sale of listed shares is exempt u/s 10(38).

Thanks for the reply mam,

I am aware it is exempt u/s 10(38) But while filing I.T. Retun you have to show the LTCG amount in column provided.

If you filed your return of income please ignore it sir or else you can consider it.Case 1- If you have purchased through broker please get the statement from broker till date.Shares sold within stock exchange LTCG @ 20%,Shares sold outside stock exchange you have option of 10% or 20% as you can consult.Case 2- If you have not purchased through broker ....if the transaction done through bank, take the payment which you can find in particulars column of your bank statement and then find indexation and get it....if the transaction is through cash place a rough data which you have and calculate your capital gain tax......For any other suggestions you can leave me the message.
