primary processing of returns is done and tax due or refund claimed is calculated from the information furnished in the ITR
Or when any adjustment is done due to inconsistency in the return then Dept. sends the intimation u/s 143(1). This intimation is not an assessment itlsef but any demand raised by the dept through this intimation is deemed to be a demand notice.
