Fresh tamarind is the one which is used for tamarind chuttney..
Dried tamarind is the one used for cooking(curries)..

Govt has launched this app named gst rate finder by cbec. Check the rate of gst any article in this app.

For Tamarind it's showing two HSN codes and both are exempted only. So it's 100% clear that it stands exempted.
