TAKING WORK AS PUNISHMENT

Quite a few people, especially young people, really look in their work as a sort of punishment. They go to it every morning with a sense of being driven.

No doubt some jobs are dull enough, and some managers make work unpleasant for those who work under them.
But this feeling that work is a punishment does a great deal of harm to those who have it.

They are likely to begin a pity themselves, and self-pity does no one any good.

Also, when they dislike their work they are sure to do it more or less badly, and this prevents them from being promoted.

NO matter how dull and monotonous a job may be, it is better to say At least I am doing my share of the work of the world.

Once the worker sees the VALUE of the work, it will become more interesting, and the feeling that it is a punishment will disappear.
