Summer sunshine beauty tips for young women
Summer is often the perfect time for relaxation and lazing around in the sun. But, if you really want to look your best as the temperature rises scroll down for some ‘beauty booster’ advice on ensuring you look as good as you feel:
Summer hair care
Spending lots of time outside in the sun can really dry out your hair, making it course, dry and brittle. A key tip on ensuring your hair stays both healthy and shiny is to cover it with a hat when outside for long periods. Using an intensive conditioner on your hair at least once a week can also really work. This is particularly recommended if you swim a lot and expose your hair to lots of chlorine and salt water. Before swimming you should also apply some leave-in conditioner in your hair to help ward off the damage caused by water chemicals.
Summer make up
Remember that famous saying ‘less is more’? This is particularly true in the summer if you’re one of those people who tan naturally in the sun. Sporting a natural healthy glow can really replace the need for make up. Instead of applying a heavy foundation in the blistering heat, why not simply highlight your glowing features with a light powder, shimmering eye shadow and some good old fashioned shiny lip gloss. We bet you’ll look stunning!
Healthy balanced diet
Ever heard that saying ‘you are what you eat’…? Summer is a great time to feast on fresh seasonal fruit and vegetables. A healthy and balanced diet is an essential part of your beauty treatment by ensuring that your body is fed all the vital vitamins and minerals to keep you looking and feeling good. All you need to do is to try and eat at least five portions of fruit and vegetables every day. We guarantee that you will really feel the benefits, both in the short and long term. So, next time you feel like tucking into a chocolate bar or packet or crisps, why not try an apple instead?
Regular exercise
This is an absolute must if you really want to ensure you skin is glowing, improve your posture, maintain a healthy weight and generally feel fit and healthy. Exercise is also an excellent way of dealing with stress, especially swimming, but make sure you drink plenty of fluids. Exercising outside can be really good fun, especially after being cooped up inside for months on end. Just remember to dress appropriately, apply sunscreen and drink lots of water.
Outdoor skin care
Let’s face it - most of us feel loads healthier and better when sporting a good tan. But, deep frying your skin for the sake of fashion brings few long term benefits. Exposing the skin to the suns ultraviolet light rays can make it thinner, cause premature aging and increase the risk of skin cancer. That’s not to mention that sun can cause cancer. So, if you’re not a fan of the fake summer tan bottle make sure you keep your skin protected and looking soft and youthful by slapping on lots of sunscreen (minimum SPF 15) when outside in hot temperatures.
Sunburn
If you want to avoid being labelled a ‘lobster’ make sure you regularly apply a high factor sun screen in the sun and cover up when your skin starts feeling tingly and red. But, take precautions early before it’s too late as the redness is often the last thing to show. If you do burn, try applying Aloe Vera or after sun lotions on your skin at night. This will help to both cool and sooth your skin and speed up the whole healing process.
Drink more water
As boring as it sounds, drinking daily regular amounts of water is the key to beautiful skin. Drinking a pint of water at night before you go to bed can really help to give your skin a radiant look the following day.
In the spring and summer months your body relies on more water to stay hydrated. When outside, we should aim to drink at least eight glasses of water a day. If your urine is a very concentrated yellow colour this is usually a good indicator that you need to drink more!
Kick the habit
Spare us the lecture! Yes, we all know how desperately bad smoking is for us! However, that still doesn’t prevent some of us from ignoring the health advice and kicking the habit. But, as a beauty treatment it has to be said that smoking simply does NOT WORK. Whilst damaging our skin cells it also causes wrinkles to develop at a much earlier stage, especially around the mouth and causes pre-mature ageing.
Alcohol in moderation
Have you ever woken up with a blotchy face after a night of binge drinking? This is usually a clear sign that, apart from giving us a sore head, drinking too much is not good for our skin. Try sticking to no more than the recommended 14 unit’s a week and not only will you feel better, but you will be doing your liver a favour.
Getting enough sleep
Are you partying too much and not getting enough sleep? If you are having loads of late nights and are feeling tired and lethargic this is usually your bodies way of telling you to slow down and have some early nights. Sleep is simply crucial for our overall sense of well being and for ensuring our body ticks like clock work during the day.
