Firstly you can't mug up Taxation just like that unless you understand the subject
You are saying u are good at practical subjects, Income Tax also Practical only, Only thing is you should thorough with Provisions, Do as many problems as you can. I scored 70 in Taxation, I'm too love practical subects
Here are a few tips to gain command over Taxation
First Understand the Basic purpose of Particular Chapter (Eg. House Property, it deals with how to tax House rent Income, is there any exemption to any individuals (SOP), How to compute value to Calculate Tax ( Valuation), Some Special Cases) Like this you can get through the chapter well
Secondly, whenever you read any Provision, Do some excercises on that provision, by this you can gain command over that provision.
Next, Write down all the provisions you are done at the end of chapter, If possible write rules laid there in every provision for quick revision
Practice Compilation Chapter wise, RTPs, Mock test papers etc
Do this for every chapter You are done, it is that simple
Finally Material, do't go for any material containing only provisions without any explanations. I suggest you to prepare Book from Dr Girish Ahuja and Dr Ravi Gupta, there you can find explanation to every provision. No need for any tutions

No need to mug up anything friend. Just give sound reading to all the provisions.
Make short notes of imp provisions and paste them on your room’s walls. Keep revising them. After finishing a provisions try and understand the application of provision in the example.
Further try and develop ur interest in the tax subject. You need small concentration in tax and that’s all.
