Its 1000 Rs. ( 800 cash + 200 goods),  Its so simple - he  got 1000 fake- gave 1000 fake -got 1000 orignal- gave 800 original and 200 goods to the lady, kept 200 original with him. Now he returned 1000 original ( net refund out of his own 1000-200 = 800). Total Loss is his own cash 800+goods 200 = 1000. THANKS GOD SHOPKEEPER DID NOT HAVE ANY FAKE NOTE, ELSE IT WOULD HAVE MORE CONFUSING CROSS HAND TRANSACTION.

It was simple and old puzzle (but worth confusing many) ;) The simple funda is based on energy conservation i.e nothing is lost it is just that forms are changed..so the loss to shopkeeper is exactly the profit to lady ..profit to lady is 800+200 and the same is loss to shop keepr :)

Rs 1800 z d correct loss

Rs 1000 fake given to d other shopkeeper in return of 1000 Original from which

200 kept for sale of goods therefore 200 wl nt b considered as loss to the shopkeeper

800 Original given to d lady z a loss to the shopkeeper

So 1000+800  Rs 1800 Total Loss

Consider two transaction separately. He has received genuine 1000 rs from shopkeeper and returned genuine 1000 rs to him back. No profit no loss. He has received genuine nothing from lady and has given 200 worth goods and 800 rs, which is his loss. So loss is 1000 only. I believe now it's clear?

The Correct Answer has to be Rs. 1000/-. nothing more than that.......

I will explain this through an assumption....

We can assume that the Shopkeeper had Rs. 800/- in his Cash Box Only. Now when the lady gave him Rs. 1000/- note he got the change from the neighbour & gave Rs. 800/- to that lady.. & Kept 200/- with him. At this point  he recovers the cost of his Goods. Now when the neighbour comes with the Duplicate note he pays him Rs. 1000/-out of Rs. 200 (which he earlier received from him + 800 from the  Cash Box) So finally the Loss amount is Rs. 1000/- (200/- for Goods & Rs. 800/- which he paid from his Cash Box..)

Thank  u all who Took part in this Confusing Puzzle & Made this puzzle more confusing for others....smileysmiley

Loss is only Rs. 1000. Take it as simple- that at the end of the day there is one fake note in his collection of the day.  So loss is only that fake note and that is rs. 1000.

200+800+1000=2000

suppose he received 10 Rs100 notes in exchange of Rs1000 note, he will keep 200 with him and give 800 back to lady. now that the other shopkeeper demands original ₹1000 , the shopkeeper will give 200 which he got from sale and add 800 more and pays off. so totally 1000 loss for shopkeeper. that 200 worth goods sold is not loss because he has not given that free of cost to the lady. he had received 200 from her. so totally his loss will be ₹1000
