I am thinking of opening a new firm with excise registration..Can I share the godown space which is used by another firm owned by my father?

you have to show a demarkation of the godown space, in such a way that it wil not mixed up with the other regn holder,
also if the goods are same then avoid.

thank you so much. only 1 item is common. My plan is to use the open space for the new firm and the closed space for the old ones. The closed space actually has 4 rooms inter-connected.

your father has to submit revised godown plan for his regn,
then only you will get regn for the balance space
but if the item is common then you have to face random visits by departmental officers and check up of records and physical verification in both the registrations, to ensure that no physical movement is done by you both without records.

Clear enough..Can I also also ask you something about service tax? Is the registration mandatory for excisable firms?

only for GTA related input service service tax is mandatory.
GSTR 9 and 9C for FY 23-24 as amended by Notification 12/2024 dated 10th July 2024(with recording)
