Service tax on rent received from educational institution

planning to give out land on rent to educational institution. would like to know whether i have to collect service tax above 10 lakhs or renting to education institute is exempted from service tax. kindly advice regards rajiv

  1. Renting of immovable property is declared service under Section 66E of the Finance Act.
  2. Hence, service tax shall be payable on the service of renting of immovable property provided to educational institution. 

    

 

Yes, it is taxable service provided total value of services provided by the service provider exceeds the threshold limit of Rs. 10 Lakhs p.a.
