17 November 2011Our unit is excisable unit but be we are availing exemetion on excise under notificaion no49/50 & not registered with excise due to excise registarion is not compalsary for exemption availing unit & have many job to produce our product so i just want to know that we are liable to pay service tax on job work as maching , poweder coating etc.

If job work amounts to manufacture of excisable goods, service tax is not applicable.Otherwise it is taxable under Business Auxiliary. Basic exemption of Rs.10L is available.
