A residential property is being used as hostel for students and others and rent charges includes charges for facility of lunch etc. The hostel is not attached with any particular education institute. My query is whether Service Tax would be applicable. And what if the said property is a commercial property.

Dear JMD,
if rent is being charged from hostel then the same will come under service tax liability if it cross the limit of 10 lakh in a year. Yes it cannot be covered under educational institution.
