My firm is engaged in exports. We deposit service tax under GTA on road transport service. Pl let me know if the same is still payable by exporters i.e. after certian exemptions provided by the govt. recently.

THESE ARE THE EXEMPTIONS:-
(a) When service provider is non-resident, service receiver is liable (b) In case of service of Goods Transport Agency (GTA), consignor/consignee who is paying freight is liable (c) In case of insurance agents and mutual fund agents, insurance company and mutual fund are liable (d) In case of sponsorship service provided to a body corporate or firm, the body corporate or firm receiving such sponsorship service will be liable.

SERVICE TAX LIBILITY ON "GTA" IS BASED ON FRIGHT EXPENSES BRONED.
I.E IF SERVICE PROVIDER PAYING FRIEGHT HE IS THE LIABLE TO PAY TAX.
