Service tax excess payment

Hi,

I have paid service tax for the 1st quater 12-13 in excess. How to deal with it as service tax return wont accept if service tax calculated and paid amt differs??

Please explain the procdure of adjustment of excess payment of service in next quater.

Pls reply at the earliest as it is urgent.

Hi Shweta,

You can file ST return even if the amount paid and payable does not match. At the time of validation of return it asks whether to continue even if amount paid and payable not matches, you should click yes.

You can adjust the excess amount against the ST liability of subsequent quarter under rule 6(4A) of ST Rules 1994 and pay that much amount less.
