13 June 2013In the recent budget, an amendment is given to an old section stating that the assessee must pay his Self Assessment Tax and Interest u/s 234A,B&C on or before the date of furnishing the return. Is this applicable for A.Y.2013-14.? Or it will be effect from A.Y.2014-15.? Reply as soon as possible.

Ok, you are refering to amendment to section 139(9) clause aa. Yes. If you are furnishing your return within due date, the same cannot be filled without self assessment tax & interest applicable thereon otherwise it will be a defective return. Oportunity to rectify the return will also be given.
