Secondment : It is a situation where you will not change your principal but work under another CA for 1 year or so.
Transfer : It is a situation where you will change your principal itself.
secondment is easy but transfer is a bit difficult.

TRANSFER OF ARTICLESHIP MEANS WHEN YOU LEFT YOUR PRESENT FIRM AND JOINED NEW FIRM.......THAT IS YOU HAVE TAKEN TRANSFER.................
SECONDMENT OF ARTICLESHIP MEANS WITH THE PERMISSON OF YOUR PRINCIPAL , YOU WOULD BE ALLOWED TO YOUR ARTICLESHIP AT OTHER PLACE WHERE WORK OF SUCH PLACE IS NOT RELATED TO YOUR PRESENT ONES.................IT IS JUST FOR ACQUIRING THE KNOWLEDGE OF THAT FIELDS FOR WHICH SUCH WORK IS NOT IN YOUR OFFICE.......................

@ Aarav Jain.. You need to first obtain the permission of your principle for taking a transfer. In normal cases, they dont agree. If he does, then fill form 109 (available at ICAI site) and get his signature on it.
The Form is to be submitted to the institute and after 1-2 months you get your letter of transfer from the institute.
@ Prateek. S.... Any number of transfers are allowed in the 1st year of articleship without the permission of institute.
After 1 year, transfer is allowed in rare circumstances and for that you have to take permission from institute.
