Mr Kittuswamy,
An assessing authority can call your account books and records for an assessment of period when he finds the returns filed by you are wrong,by issuing a notice. The commissioner can selectively call for recrds of particular dealer,based on some information or otherwise,to reassess the returns filed by you(see sec 25). There are penalties upto Rs two thousand rupees for various offences......mjk
