Please tell me,
can I adjust books & periodicals from my salary income in the f.y. 2009-10. I have 15000/- P.A. books & periodicals in my salary structure. If I submit the bills can i get the tax exemption for the same amount. Please clarify.

Sorry Sir,
There is no provision to take benefit available to salaried employee for the said expenses.

Dear N.sreenivas,
Agree with friends as such it cannot be deducted from salary.
However if ur employer is ready to treat is as one prescribed under sec 10(14) read with Rule 2BB
(e) any allowance granted for encouraging the academic, research and training pursuits in educational and research institutions;
In this case lower of the following shall be exempt -
a) Amount of such allowance received (like 15k in ur case)
b) Actual expenditure on Books and periodicals.
