Risk managers asked to focus on key areas

The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI), Doha chapter, organised a seminar on ‘financial risk management’.

Traylor highlighted the key areas such as interest rates, foreign exchange, commodities and equities for financial risk managers to focus on.

He explained the various risks to be measured, managed and controlled by financial risk managers.

Traylor said financial risk did not mean speculation but effectively managing risk to see that an organisation achieved its
potential return.

ICAI Doha chapter chairman Kurian Kuriakose opened the seminar.

Kuriakose said, “Risks and Opportunities always co-exist in this world. From that perspective, it is good that risk can never be eliminated but needs to be mitigated or managed using suitable controls. Among the many risks faced by organisations, financial risks are of particular interest to auditors and accountants. In this context, financial risk management assumes significant importance to our profession.”
