What happens to the original return as soon as i file a revised return? Does my original return stand cancelled after filing of revised return?

If you have filed original return on or before due date then revised return substitute original return , you can file revised return any number of time till completion of assesment or one year from the end of the relevant assessmnet year.

Due date for filing salary return and non company assessee and non tax audit individual is 31/07/2014. so if you filed your original return on or before 31/07/2014 then you can file revised return up to 31/03/2016 or date of completeion of assessmnet which ever is earlier. And it may be noted that even if you file revised return previous returns may be used to gather evidence in tax evasion cases. So revised return should be filed to rectify mistakes caused inadvertedly in major cases.

above is a detailed and proper explanation for revised return. but to answer your query in short, revised return replaces the original return filed and original return is deemed to have never been filed.
