Registering a new firm

What is the procedure of registering a new Proprietary CA firm? I believe we first to apply for approval of a new trade/firm name and then once it is approved, then we apply for registration. Is this correct?

Also, can any of these forms be filled online or we have to manually submit it to the institute? How long does the process take? Thanks!

Firstly you must be holding COP. All forms to be submitted Manually. No online facility available.

For approval of firm name fill 117. you have to suggest 4 firm names. Icai will approve one if available. then fill form 18 for registration of firm with in 30 days. Process will take 1.5 month approx.

Thanks!

Just wanted to know what the difference between part-time COP and full-time COP is? I have been granted COP, however, when I check up the list of members, I see that I'm holding part-time COP? I've never opted for a part-time COP, I just opted for 'COP'. I didn't see any option of part-time or full-time while applying for COP.

Anyways, is part-time COP sufficient for opening a proprietorship firm?

You must have shown yourself employed in any CA firm or any other engagement. that is why your status of COP is part time.

A Member holding Part time COP can create the firm and get it registered. But can not undertake Attestation services. In other words you can provide consultancy services only.
