how do v ensure the safety of the accounts in tally in case the system
has got virus & needs to be formatted.

You can copy the data file in any kind of removable hardware whether it may be a CD or pendrive.

Accounts data security is very crucial for any organisation. Firstly i suggest you to take daily backup in a CD. Incase of Mishaps, you may restore the same and continue..
Howerver, with regard to your query, you may consult your hardware engineer who will assist you to extract data from Hardisk.
