Regarding markings in bank passbook

Dear All,

An individual assessee wants to file his Income Tax return. Is any individual assessee can have freedom to write particulars with pen/pencil about debit/credit entries  besides them in bank passbook/bank statement?  Is there any provision in Income Tax Act,1961  that does not allow to make markings or writing anything with pen/pencil in bank passbook or bank statement? Earlier bank passbooks were handwritten and now they are computerized printed. Kindly reply.

Thre is no cush provision under the I-T Act which prohibits frm wirting anything in the banks passbook/statement.

However when you receive any cheque, the details should be written on the counter-foil for future reference & when any cheque is paid by you the details shud be written in the cheque book at the beginning or at the end of the cheque book.  So there is no need to write anything in the bank statement/passbook

Pl. Don't do that .Never write in Pass Book .Get the passbook updated. Also consider interest entries .
