you have to contact ITO in which ward you had filed return of income. dont reply to cpc bangalore. Your Case is selected directly. see ward for assessement year 2011-12 return of income and attend the office of ITO. Otherwise ITO will perform Best Judgement Assessment

In case you haven't received an assessment order for that particular year you can write a letter to the concerned assessing officer requesting him for the assessment order. The assessment order will provide you insights as to why you have 70k payable.

Thanks for advice.
I am salaried employee with average income. I have FORM-16 as well as ITR-v form etc. with me . My employer deducted tax @ source. This demand is for year 07-08AY.
isn't it a case of harassment from IT department? without giving any detail how can you ask someone pay 70k.
Do you know any tax consultant in Pune area who can help me get past this?

sir this is happening with everyone do not worry. Even in my office a hell a lot of orders have been received.
I am not a resident of pune so cannot help you on that. Your case being demand for AY 07-08, you can check your form 26AS for tds credits, there might be a possibiliy that tax deducted has not properly reached in your PAN.

This is not a demand notice. This is an intimation to the assessee, letting them know that based on the records of the ITD there is a demand payable for the past assessment year which has remained open, possibly without the knowledge of the assessee. It is possible that with updation of records / rectification u/s 154 this can be closed. This has been sent by CPC just to give a heads up to the assesseess as future refunds could get adjusted against these demands leading to problems down the line. All this data has been uploaded by the respective Assessing Officers to the CPC portal and since CPC has not processed these returns, they can only be sorted out by the relevant AOs.
