No it's exempted. the amount invested in chapter via Sec 80C

Are you talking about yearly interest credit to PPF ?

Generally PPF interest is exempted unless it is withdrawn before maturity

But the investment in PPF is not in income, so how can it be exempt from anything?

Investment in PPF may be claimed as deduction under section 80C.
