Are you getting a Green Tick against the status as Validated on main screen? If so consider the account as validated. Save the screenshot for future reference.
I have similar situation. Only Mr. Nandan Nilekani probably knows why there's so much of discrepancy in this process and status update. And trust me that remark Validation in progress is perpetual. It will not change till eternity.
If you wish, you can just log a grievance on the portal telling them that you see conflicting messages. Well it won't help much but still a feel good factor.
Are you going to enable EVC on that account and are you going to use it for refund credit?
The only way to surely validate an account in my observation is to logging thru Bank's Internet Banking system to efiling website. Banks like BOB, ICICI, Central, Axis etc work well in this regards of efiling integration thru Internet banking..

I had similar concern. So I finally opened another account in bank of baroda (min balance just 2000 Rs) got myself registered for internet banking and linked my bob a/c with IT portal thru efiling login. Now I have a clear-cut pre-validated account without ambiguous or conflicting status fully validated and EVC enabled. I will use that now for all refund credits.
I made several requests to the concerned bank and Income tax Helpdesk to solve the issue or clarify if such status is ok but no one bothered.
I solved it simply by opening a brand new a/c with BOB
Most imp thing is your name, PAN, email and mobile must match between bank records and efiling portal.
If you name is Ramakrishna in bank and Ramkrishna in IT portal (PAN) it will fail.
