Hi Gaurang
The best for preparation is
If you went for classes , Class notes
Study Material + Practice Manual.
If you have not gone for any classes
Best is Only one reference book which is available in the market.
Dont get confused or tensed.

Dear gaurang, pls provide some more info regd ur studies so that a proper advice can be given. Since it is ur 6th attempt, u must have done some preparation in grp 1. Have u used any reference book for any subject or have u read from the study material? Also tell me whether u have attended any classes. And why do u want to limit ur studies to practice manual? Is it bcoz of any time constraint? For one grp, 3 months are enough to prepare from a standard reference book, especially since it isnt ur 1st attempt. If u have used any reference book 4 the previous attempts, pls stick to it(unless it is really bad)..Then u can easily prepare within 3 months. Pls do provide info on these matters..then will give my opinion.

Hi..Past papers & practice manuals are definitely important but arent enough to clear the exams. Even if u solve all the problems from the practice manuals, still u will be in trouble if the paper setter sets some new kind of question(it happens sometimes, especially in sfm). The only way u can succeed in papers like sfm & accounts is by having good conceptual knowledge. For that u will have to refer standard reference books.

Hi.... I think our institute's Study material is enough for Accounts as i worked out all the illustrations only it was more than enough as i got exemption in first attempt itself and cleared the group. but for SFM you have to refer any other author but follow any one author.

Hi All
I joined this club only on 17th and I enjoy getting all the news and reviews.I have started appearing CA Final after a gap of 14 years.I had clear my Intermediate in 1997.The requirement of my Japanese company and support from my parents, husband, sons and other family members and friends persue me to take up this challenge again.
I had join ETEN satellite classes for Group I in December,2010 and appear in May,2011 wherein I scored 178/400 but negative result and no exemption,I thought first attempt and didnot prepare notes the reason is myself to blame..I again joined ETEN for Group II and appeared for both the groups in November,2011 and again no success.I believe in God but patience..
Please advice me what should I do?I have been a brillent student at school, college and university level even Intermediate clear in second attempt.
What to read and how to study I am confused.
I am an Accounts and FInance Manager in Japanese company. My company works 5 days a week working, when I analysed my result :less time for study and no revision since leave was only 5 days +exam days17 and family responsiblility, our one son is in 12th and other in 9th.
Which Group should I appear and what to study and how since this time also the leave will be after 26th April,2012 due to consolidation and finalisation of accounts, our Balance Sheet is signed on 26th April,2012 every year and AGM is on 18th May

Practice manual is important but should not be the only!
As everybody knows, practice Manual is a compilation of number of questions from various sources such as past exam papers, previous RTPs and important questions for the specific attempt.
Being a practical subject, AMA is one of the most scoring and interesting subject of CA Final. But then it is similar to costing of CA Intermediate with a bit more enhanced syllabus so it simply depends on how much you like costing.
See, the practical subject required nothing but lots and lots of practice. Student can do practice of questions from anywhere even from some other teacher’s book but for that students need to first understand the concepts which can only be done by referring to study material. Thus, as per my opinion, practice manual alone is not sufficient to get an exemption. Students should also refer study materials before going through practice manual.
Also I would like to share the process I went through when I was preparing for this subject. So students may already know that AMA Practice manual consists of 2 parts-
Part1, Costing For the costing part, chapter 2, 4 and 7 are more logical and may take more time. My advice here would be to practice daily minimum 5 sums of chapter 2(decision making) as it is really difficult to complete this chapter in a stretch.
Part2, Operations research or “OR” For OR, understand all the concepts first and then do the sums. Lately ICAI has started asking more of theory from this area which is hard to attempt if you don’t know the concepts thoroughly. So scoring in OR is not the same as it was earlier where direct questions were asked.
Try to solve every sum of PM at least in rough. Also don’t ignore any of the chapters as you never know what they may ask and from where. Also try to solve as many mock test papers as possible. It helps a lot to equip your self with the pattern and type of questions. I would say, one should choose PREPCA test series. Their bird’s eye view gives a comprehensive analysis of your preparation chapter-wise. Moreover, their counselling sessions are also great!
One more important thing that students need to follow is not to ignore the theory part at all. You don’t know where the practical sums can come from but the theory will definitely come from the questions given in the practice manual.
