I have done self-study for CA FInal.Cleared Group - 2 this Nov 2012.However im deeply worried about SFM in Group 1 as i scored only 29 in this paper which i feel is very poor considering the paper was so easy.

To be honest i couldn't find a reference book in the market which would suite my style of studying.Have referred A.N. Sridhar and J.B. Gupta books so far but apart from conceptual clarity i found that these books doesn't contain enough past questions and also the questions(past q's and others) are being solved in a very different, confusing and disruptive manner which psyches me out.I 'm not able to gather the concept, steps and the formulas used while solving questions in these two books and as a result im getting entangled into what to do in the question and how to proceed further and what specific steps are to be followed...

I just wanna know whether there is any other reference book available for SFM which contains good no. of practical questions solved in proper methodical way, which is easy to understand, contains past 10-12 years properly solved Questions with detailed steps (unlike the books mentioned above).

I have made umpteen attempts earlier to get proper suggestions regarding the books to be chosen, but have got replies only from those who keep on replying regularly on such book related questions..and feel frustrated as to why those who have cleared the exams and scored 50+ marks in these subjects in the recent exams(May 11 to Nov 12) don't offer help as to which notes/books they referred and any other useful help/areas to concentrate in the subject  which could be fruitful while studying and for scoring good marks in exams.

All that these passed out students do after the result is display their marks on a post, show their happiness, earn praises from other CCI'tes and disappear from the site which is good, but why can't they at the same time reply to the posts seeking help for the way to achieve success in exams..the same thing that they have achieved..even now im posting this query with no expectation of useful/suitable reply from those i expect to.............

All The Best yes

Dear Mansi..Thx. for ur valuable suggestion but the case is that im not able to clear my concepts thoroughly bymyself...atleast while referring these two books...

Probably did d biggest mistake of my life by not taking any coaching for finals..had i been in Delhi or Rajasthan or chennai wud have surely gone ahead with coaching..but here in mumbai they neither provide coaching for a single subject neither  is it worth attending any classes here..speaking wid my experience in PCC for which i went to J.K. Shah..Though professional Academy is good one..but they opened their branch in Western Region of Mumbai only last year...huhhhh feeling a bit luckless..Oh god save me from another failure...

Thank you mansi for your view. I would like to suppliment the following aspect in this connection.

The main reason of poor performance is not due to the books you have refered for preparation but due to the method of studies. Even if you have refered any authors book, you will be have the same faith.

You are learning a particular method and following sums on that method. If a questions set from different method, then, you will drink a lot of water. SFM problem solving, there is no particular method to solve the problems.

You have to give more focus on conceputal learning. what is concepts?? It is a logic behind solving the problems. You have to get a firm grip over the concepts first. Write it in a note book.

You also try to solve a good number of problems without refering to the solutions. Initailly you will struck a lot of points. you will think a lot, you will commit a lot of blunders, but you can identify what make you to create mistake.

In exam, the questions can be set in a different method than you have learned and you cant solve it properly.

Clear your conceptual clarity first and try to solve the problem without refering the solutions. Think a lot while you solve the problems. When u start solve the problems without the help of the solutions will boost your confidene a lot and this will alone help you at the time of exam

Gaurav, I understand what you are going through, please do not feel hopeless and hapless.

Look, you need to change the way you are thinking now. I feel you need to develop a positive attitude in yourself and believe in your abilities. I empathize the pain which you may be going through but relax and take a deep breathe, nothing is impossible in this world until we give out best.

As I gather from your postings it appears that A N Sridhar and J B Gupta books have failed to instill confidence in you in terms of conceptual understanding of the topics and even attending coaching classes seems to be elusive because of reasons best known to you.

Now my suggestion to you is please stop complaining about others and ignite the passion in you by telling your heart that you will crack the exam this time. Percolate this message into soul and mind, surely the success will come your way. Build a strong positive thinking and this will entail you in handling crisis in life.

Let me suggest, why not try Pattabiram book, as it is a book helpful in giving you conceptual understanding. It also contains a variety of problems, which you need to work out by practicing daily.

The major areas to focus in SFM which is vital is mix of both Modern and traditional domains like International Finance (Futures and Options, Derivatives etc.), Foreign Exchange Management, Capital Budgeting, Portfolio Management etc.

The role of theory is vital in order to score good marks, so you must revise theory regularly along with the formulae so that you can feel reasonably confident.

I agree with Mansi, it is better to stick to one single book rather than reading too many books, which may lead to confusion. Thus, try to revise from one book, which you think is best.

Best of Luck

Sathish

@  CA.ViVeK M ACA...couldn't agree wid u more sir...bang on target about my problem..

@  Sathish M ..brother at the moment, yes im feeling a bit down and out..but i sure know how to stand up and fight..after all thats wat life is all about...

As far as these two books are concerned im fed up trying to gain conceptual clarity but to no avail..so probably would go for Pattabhi Ram for clearing concepts..followed by ICAI's compiler for gaining insight on past questions and the way ICAI requires questions to be solved and presented...backed up by P.M. and RTP of 3 attempts...hopefully that should suffice...

Any other suggestions are truly welcome......

I think u should refer SD Bala & V Pattabhi Book... Its a wonderful book.
