Dear Priyanka,
No, Trust and Non profit organisation are the different things. The main object of NPO's is to promote Art, Science, commerce , religion, charity and any other useful oblect. For obtaining such status an organisation need to take prior approval from the Central Govt. Without approval no organisation can get the status of NPO's. NPO's work for the whole of the society not for the single group or person.
But in case of trust, no govt. approval is required. There need to have just an agreement for the creation of trust. The object may be same in some cases. The registration is optional here. trust is created for the benefits of society or for a single beneficiary as well.
Pls correct me if i am wrong.
