Pan card- old and new

if someone has a pan card with a name error, so instead of pan correction, he has applied for a new pan card which has a new pan number. but he wants to change the name in the old pan card only and don't want that new pan card because for all the financial transactions he has given his old pan card. so please let me know the procedure for surrendering the new pan card and also for name change in the old pan card
