In cases where an intangible asset is contained on or in a tangible item, In such cases, judgement is required to determine which is the more significant element. For example, In the case of a machine incorporating software that cannot be operated without the software, the entire item would be treated as property plant and equipment under IAS 16. Hence in the given case Paintings would be classified as tangible asset, however any rights to sale copies of such paintings would be classified as intangible asset.
