if the payment of the employee contribution to the PF A/C for a month is paid through a cheque or DD then what would be the date of payment to be considered, is it the date of deposit of cheque / DD or the clearing date of the same......

DATE OF DEPOSIT OF CHEQUE/DD, SUBJECT TO CLEARANCE OF THE SAME
It should be the date of deposit of cheques only, but all prevalent banking practices use the disclaimer:- " all cheque payments are subject to clearance"! An issue could arise when the cheque deposited as such returns for many reasons!
