Outstanding tax demand response

Assessee is a retired bank employee. On claiming refund for AY 18-19, received a demand notice pertaining to AY 2009-10. Since the assessee could not find the details of that particular year he couldn't respond correctly. On inquiring his bank for the Form 16 details of AY 2009-10, they had submitted a response to Outstanding Tax Demand and received a confirmation mail from IT dept with transaction ID. On the same day the entire amount of refund claimed is adjusted against the demand. Now the assessee had collected all details of form 16 filed manually and e-filed copies from the Date of employment to AY 2018-19. On cross checking he had filed as per Form 16 issued by the employer. There is tax credit mismatch in certain years.

As this being the case, what can we do to clear this issue. Is there any possibility to clear this via online.

Could we by any source track the response submitted via Transaction ID available
