Open Letter to ICAI Council

Dear Sir(s)/Madam(s),

This is being observed that the Institute is of the opinion that the students are under prepared for undertaking the rigors of the profession as they fail to mug and vomit thousands of pages of the syllabus. Further, to make them feel incompetent and helpless the papers are set in such a manner that is not only diffuclt to answer but is also to discourage them and ensure that they loose faith in their own potentials.

This is a view which is being agreed to by most of our fraternity. We may be wrong!!! We, the students maybe incompetent to undertake the rigors of the profession and are seriously incompetent to write the exams within the stipulated time. But we believe this cannot be a notion and needs to be backed up by valid proof.

In this regard we request the esteemed members of the council who have taken up the ardous task of cleaning up the system to show it to us youngsters how to answer the paper as per the desired levels as expected by the Institute. It will be fair that they the council members being Qualified already be able to solve the paper in less than the stipulated time with more that avaerage accuracy. I request the esteemed council member that they undertake this benevolent act and organise a paper writing session next week where they undertake any two paper in the combination given below :

1. Accounts & Costing

2. Accounts & Direct Taxes

3. Costing & Direct Taxes

4. MICS & Company Law

It will be an insult to the members to be asked to solve any paper below the final level. We suggest that the papers be taken up on sunday i.e. 06.12.2009 in all the cities or towns which are represented by the council members. This will serve as a guidance and an inspiration to us students to write exams and qualify. For the benefit of students, kindly publish your papers in the ICAI Journal.

Though it need not be said we expect the members will not adhere to "unfair means "(as defined by ICAI Code of conduct). Further,  incase the members fail to write the exams as per the standards as expected by them, it will be fair to expect an honourable and professional behaviour from them i.e. they quit the council and the profession and join all of us in the subsequent exams till they qualify.

We believe that your kindselves will not disappoint us and oblige our request.

Yours Obediently,

Mohan Bhargav,

President - Akhil Bhartiya CA Student Union

P.S. - It wont be fair to the members if we ask them to prepare for such an exam as they are expected to have "expert knowledge" in all the fields mentioned above.
